Amy’s Kisses’ programs are conducted at various locations throughout the region, including schools, youth organizations and domestic violence agencies. Ultimately, plans call for a central location and offices where many of these programs can occur. Our programs currently include:
Prevention Education Program
Our Prevention Education Program works with community partners to fulfill our mission of someday ending domestic violence. We currently provide free basic educational resources on domestic and dating violence and healthy relationships with all of our partners. Our school-based programming covers topics such as teen dating violence, warning signs of abuse, healthy relationships, media influence, gender roles, sexual assault, and consent – all meeting the standards and benchmarks for sexual health education set by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Few schools have the resources to train educators to teach a healthy relationship curriculum. Currently, we fund the development of resources that educators can use in the
classroom. Ultimately, we plan to train volunteer facilitators to conduct classroom -based education directly. Our programming is designed currently to help more 8 different schools annually achieve goals similar to those developed by the Oregon Healthy Teen Relationships Act (HTRA), which requires all schools in that state to adopt policies and programs addressing teen dating violence.
We are also currently looking to support the implementation of Coaching Boys into Men in local high schools and community organizations. This national Futures Without Violence program provides athletic coaches with the resources they need to promote respectful behavior among male athletes and help prevent relationship abuse, harassment, and sexual assault.
Additionally, we have formed a partnership with Laurel House in Norristown, PA. Laurel House is a comprehensive domestic violence agency serving individuals, families and communities throughout Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Laurel House is dedicated to the vision of ending domestic violence in each life, home and community. Our partnership includes Laurel House providing the training of Amy’s Kisses facilitators to teach domestic violence prevention classes, as well as Amy’s Kisses providing possible funding of the Laurel House Library, which is used as a key resource for all those seeking help from the organization.
We work to ensure that all presentations and materials that we support are inclusive of all genders and sexual orientations and to address the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, two- spirited, queer, and questioning youth who are at-risk for or have already experienced dating and sexual violence.
Educational Scholarships Program
We have partnered with Philadelphia Futures to help provide Philadelphia's low-income, first-generation-to-college students with the tools, resources and opportunities necessary for admission to and success in college. We help transform lives by breaking down the barriers that have historically excluded low-income, first-generation-to-college students from achieving college success. The students we serve through Philadelphia Futures are provided with a comprehensive, time-tested array of programs designed to reduce the institutional, academic, social and financial barriers to college success.
As part of the Sponsor-A-Scholar (SAS) program we annually provide six high school students with financial support in the form of $1,500 academic scholarships each.
The Sponsor-A-Scholar Program has served students for over 25 years and has produced extraordinary results: 98% of students have matriculated to college. The projected college graduation rate for recent Sponsor-A-Scholar classes is 71%.
